Suzuki Announces Exhibits for Auto Expo 2011 in New Delhi
20th July 2011
Maruti Suzuki India will be showing 16 other automobiles including ten production models (13 units in total) and two reference exhibits: the Kizashi and SX4 Hatchback (three units in total).
Maruti Suzuki pavilion will also be highlighting Suzuki’s two-wheel leadership by showing nine motorcycles: the Hayabusa, Intruder, and other large models; the Thai-produced Skydrive 125 scooter; and the Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter, which was last seen at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.
HOT ON THE HEELS of Honda’s New Small Concept, Suzuki has thrown another small car contender into the booming Indian compact segment in the form of the R3 MPV concept. The new concept is (as usual) sparse on details, but we could expect to see any one of Suzuki’s 1.2 or 1.4 litre engines, a Fiat 1.4 or even an offering from the Volkswagen stable, which now owns a considerable stake.
Nissan will showcase its transporter and hospitality cars used during it’s participation in the domestic racing series, recreating the exciting atmosphere of the race circuit. Included in this display is Nissan’s range of standard road cars stylized with the latest genuine aero body-kits that compliments the vehicles pure form. Autech will show its expertise in custom cars with its fun and relaxing Rider Series while NISMO will be presenting its NISMO Club Sports Package Custom, the 2010 Nissan GT-R equipped with the newly-developed “NISMO Data Logger Kit” and the XANAVI NISMO GT-R racecar that competed in the 2008 SUPER GT series.
Combining and updating the look and feel of the dearly departed CR-X with hybrid technology, and adding a dash of the Honda Insight, the new CR-Z is expected to do well as buyers look for hybrid technology in sportier looking models.
Quick specs:
- 1.5 litre V-Tec 4cylinder with IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) hybrid-electric system, 122HP@6000rpm, 128lb-ft (123 on Auto models) of torque
— CVT auto or 6 speed manual
— 3 driving modes, Econ, Sport, Normal
— CR-Z and CR-Z EX trims
— 6 speaker MP3/USB stereo on the CR-Z, 60-Watt AM/FM/CD premium audio system with seven speakers including subwoofer, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®, perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and HID headlights on the CR-Z EX
— ABS and EBD as standard.
According to a report in Autocar, the FT-86 is being turned into yet another bland Toyota vehicle à la Camry.
The car’s focus is now aimed between 30 and 40 year olds, retains RWD, and will suffer in the performance department as Toyota seek to wring more fuel economy out of the Subaru sourced boxer instead of performance.
Toyota are also expected to increase the price from around US$20,000 to US$23,000 for a base model, and going as high as US$26,000 for a spec’d up version. Toyota risks alienating younger, more performance oriented drivers with this move, as the company has no significant sports vehicles.
Ed: Looks like Toyota doesn’t have the stones to make a new sports car, as we saw with the HT-FS. Nissan (370), Mitsu (EVO), Subaru(WRX) and even Hyundai (Genesis) are filling the gaps here, though not necessarily in the same price bracket.
Although the LF-A is itself limited to a run of only 500 units, Lexus have announced a Nürburgring edition of only 50 units to compliment sales.
The new edition bumps the 4.8L V10’s output 10 horsepower to 562HP, upgrades suspension, gains a new front splitter, dive planes and a fixed rear wing. Transmission changes see shift times drop 50ms to 150ms total, and the car comes in either whitest white, black, McLaren orange, or buyers may option matte black at an added $20, 000 premium on top of the $70, 000 package cost. The LF-A costs $375, 000 as standard.
[Ed: If you can stand the ugliness of the car enhanced in orange, you’re looking at $445, 000 for a car that isn’t that much more impressive than the $85, 000 GT-R. If you can’t stomach the orange, then the matte black will mean $465, 000.
Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have held press conference in Palo Alto, California to announce that both companies will be working together on electric vehicle development and manufacturing, with Toyota spending $50 million in private placement of Tesla stock.
Tesla and Toyota plan to use the recently closed ex-Toyota NUMMI plant in Freemont, CA, USA with Model S production expected to bring back 1,000 workers and output 20,000 cars a year, with that output expected to increase as new models are added. The plant could soon expand to as many as 10,000 workers, and approach it’s previous capacity of 300,000 cars per annum.
The Model S is on track for production in 2012. No information is yet available on any technology or process sharing deals between Tesla and Toyota, but Tesla is expected to benefit greatly from Toyota’s mass production expertise and efficiency.
Few Japanese engines are held in as high esteem as the venerable Nissan RB26DETT. The engine was first fitted in 1989 to the Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R, and immediately caused upsets in motorsport and tuning circles, including it’s iconic debut at Bathurst in Australia using the N1 designation (more on the RB26DETT N1 down the page). Here we present a few pertinent facts about the powerhouse of the later model Godzillas.
The unit is from the RB family of engines, a 2.6L dual overhead cam, electronically fuel injected, twin turbo (RB26DETT) charged inline six cylinder. It uses a cast-iron block at it’s core, with aluminium cylinder heads, 24 valves (4 valves per cylinder) and uses 6 throttle bodies, unique amongst the RB family.
According to Autoblog the revised 2012 Nissan GT-R is expected to develop in excess of 500HP and 450 pound-feet of torque in a bid to keep the newly revamped Porsche 911 Turbo at bay. Apparently the revised model has been seen around the ‘Ring recently, no doubt in order to lower the GT-R’s infamous lap time of 7:26.
Not much more is known at this stage, but it’s safe to say the VR38DETT Twin Turbo V6 will remain the workhorse, and gain a few tuning changes. Expect retuned suspension, larger brakes, new diffusers and rear wing configuration and minor aerokit changes.
The 11th cycle Skyline (V35) was a major turning indicate for the nameplate, as it dropped the Skyline’s trademark attributes for example the straight-6 motor and turbocharging, in the future divided the GT-R into its particular line, and moved to V6-engined period, this determination which developed to all later Skylines. Nissan chose to position the Skyline for the extravagance-wear business sector, while its stage-mate, the 350Z, resuscitated the Z line of immaculate dons cars.[5] The V35 was the first Skyline made for fare to North America, being sold under Nissan’s richness marque Infiniti as the G35. The Skyline (V36/J50) is sold in Europe, North America, South Korea, Taiwan, and the Middle East as the Infiniti G37.
