Maruti Suzuki India will be show­ing 16 other auto­mo­biles includ­ing ten pro­duc­tion mod­els (13 units in total) and two ref­er­ence exhibits: the Kiza­shi and SX4 Hatch­back (three units in total).

Maruti Suzuki pavil­ion will also be high­light­ing Suzuki’s two-​​wheel lead­er­ship by show­ing nine motor­cy­cles: the Hayabusa, Intruder, and other large mod­els; the Thai-​​produced Sky­drive 125 scooter; and the Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter, which was last seen at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.

HOT ON THE HEELS of Honda’s New Small Con­cept, Suzuki has thrown another small car con­tender into the boom­ing Indian com­pact seg­ment in the form of the R3 MPV concept.The new con­cept is (as usual) sparse on details, but we could expect to see any one of Suzuki’s 1.2 or 1.4 litre engines, a Fiat 1.4 or even an offer­ing from the Volk­swa­gen sta­ble, which now owns a con­sid­er­able stake.

Nis­san will show­case its trans­porter and hos­pi­tal­ity cars used dur­ing it’s par­tic­i­pa­tion in the domes­tic rac­ing series, recre­at­ing the excit­ing atmos­phere of the race cir­cuit. Included in this dis­play is Nissan’s range of stan­dard road cars styl­ized with the lat­est gen­uine aero body-​​kits that com­pli­ments the vehi­cles pure form. Autech will show its exper­tise in cus­tom cars with its fun and relax­ing Rider Series while NISMO will be pre­sent­ing its NISMO Club Sports Pack­age Cus­tom, the 2010 Nis­san GT-​​R equipped with the newly-​​developed “NISMO Data Log­ger Kit” and the XANAVI NISMO GT-​​R race­car that com­peted in the 2008 SUPER GT series.

Com­bin­ing and updat­ing the look and feel of the dearly departed CR-​​X with hybrid tech­nol­ogy, and adding a dash of the Honda Insight, the new CR-​​Z is expected to do well as buy­ers look for hybrid tech­nol­ogy in sportier look­ing models.

Accord­ing to a report in Auto­car, the FT-​​86 is being turned into yet another bland Toy­ota vehi­cle à la Camry.

The car’s focus is now aimed between 30 and 40 year olds, retains RWD, and will suf­fer in the per­for­mance depart­ment as Toy­ota seek to wring more fuel econ­omy out of the Sub­aru sourced boxer instead of performance.

Toy­ota are also expected to increase the price from around US$20,000 to US$23,000 for a base model, and going as high as US$26,000 for a spec’d up ver­sion. Toy­ota risks alien­at­ing younger, more per­for­mance ori­ented dri­vers with this move, as the com­pany has no sig­nif­i­cant sports vehicles.

Ed: Looks like Toy­ota doesn’t have the stones to make a new sports car, as we saw with the HT-​​FS. Nis­san (370), Mitsu (EVO), Subaru(WRX) and even Hyundai (Gen­e­sis) are fill­ing the gaps here, though not nec­es­sar­ily in the same price bracket.

Although the LF-​​A is itself lim­ited to a run of only 500 units, Lexus have announced a Nür­bur­gring edi­tion of only 50 units to com­pli­ment sales.

The new edi­tion bumps the 4.8L V10’s out­put 10 horse­power to 562HP, upgrades sus­pen­sion, gains a new front split­ter, dive planes and a fixed rear wing. Trans­mis­sion changes see shift times drop 50ms to 150ms total, and the car comes in either whitest white, black,  McLaren orange, or buy­ers may option matte black at an added $20, 000 pre­mium on top of the $70, 000 pack­age cost. The LF-​​A costs $375, 000 as standard.

[Ed: If you can stand the ugli­ness of the car enhanced in orange, you’re look­ing at $445, 000 for a car that isn’t that much more impres­sive than the $85, 000 GT-​​R. If you can’t stom­ach the orange, then the matte black will mean $465, 000.

Toy­ota CEO Akio Toy­oda, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Cal­i­for­nia gov­er­nor Arnold Schwarzeneg­ger have held press con­fer­ence in Palo Alto, Cal­i­for­nia to announce that both com­pa­nies will be work­ing together on elec­tric vehi­cle devel­op­ment and man­u­fac­tur­ing, with Toy­ota spend­ing $50 mil­lion in pri­vate place­ment of Tesla stock.

Tesla and Toy­ota plan to use the recently closed ex-​​Toyota NUMMI plant in Freemont, CA, USA with Model S pro­duc­tion expected to bring back 1,000 work­ers and out­put 20,000 cars a year, with that out­put expected to increase as new mod­els are added. The plant could soon expand to as many as 10,000 work­ers, and approach it’s pre­vi­ous capac­ity of 300,000 cars per annum.

The Model S is on track for pro­duc­tion in 2012. No infor­ma­tion is yet avail­able on any tech­nol­ogy or process shar­ing deals between Tesla and Toy­ota, but Tesla is expected to ben­e­fit greatly from Toyota’s mass pro­duc­tion exper­tise and efficiency.

Few Japan­ese engines are held in as high esteem as the ven­er­a­ble Nis­san RB26DETT. The engine was first fit­ted in 1989 to the Nis­san R32 Sky­line GT-​​R, and imme­di­ately caused upsets in motor­sport and tun­ing cir­cles, includ­ing it’s iconic debut at Bathurst in Aus­tralia using the N1 des­ig­na­tion (more on the RB26DETT N1 down the page). Here we present a few per­ti­nent facts about the pow­er­house of the later model Godzillas.

The unit is from the RB fam­ily of engines, a 2.6L dual over­head cam, elec­tron­i­cally fuel injected, twin turbo (RB26DETT) charged inline six cylin­der. It uses a cast-​​iron block at it’s core, with alu­minium cylin­der heads, 24 valves (4 valves per cylin­der) and uses 6 throt­tle bod­ies, unique amongst the RB family.

Accord­ing to Auto­blog the revised 2012 Nis­san GT-​​R is expected to develop in excess of 500HP and 450 pound-​​feet of torque in a bid to keep the newly revamped Porsche 911 Turbo at bay. Appar­ently the revised model has been seen around the ‘Ring recently, no doubt in order to lower the GT-R’s infa­mous lap time of 7:26.

Not much more is known at this stage, but it’s safe to say the VR38DETT Twin Turbo V6 will remain the work­horse, and gain a few tun­ing changes. Expect retuned sus­pen­sion, larger brakes, new dif­fusers and rear wing con­fig­u­ra­tion and minor aerokit changes.
